Since 1996, Center Strength has Offered the Highest level of one on one Pilates instruction.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a thoughtful, powerful system of exercise. It builds strength and flexibility and helps people look and feel good by improving alignment, posture, and balance. With Pilates, there is an incredible focus on detail – the movements are precise and deliberate. This makes it a wonderful exercise program for people with injuries or other health concerns.
Pilates is mindful movement. Mindful movement simply means paying attention. We want you to focus on which muscles you are using and why. Paying attention to how you feel in your body and how it works empowers you to take care of yourself. It teaches you to relax, focus, and be present. In a world that pulls us in many different directions - emails, jobs, and families - focussing and staying present with ourselves is a gift that helps us feel better in every other area of our lives.
One on one Pilates sessions use specialized equipment - the Reformer, Trapeze Table, and Wunda Chair, among others - which are designed to support, challenge, stretch, and strengthen.
The best thing about Pilates? Its versatility. The exercises can be adapted to meet your needs at every stage of life. It is equally helpful after a knee replacement or to bring your fitness to the next level.
How can it benefit me?
A regular Pilates practice helps you achieve the exact right balance between strength, power, flexibility, and ease in the body. Little nagging aches and pains go away. Posture improves. You will grow strong.
What should I expect in my first session?
First we need to learn about your fitness goals and any injuries you may have. That way we can develop an exercise program to move you toward those goals, while taking into account any injuries.
We feel it is important to educate and instruct new Pilates students about what the core is and how to work with it. Everyone wants a "stronger core", but sometimes the details are a little fuzzy. Ever heard "contract your pelvic floor" and wondered what on earth that meant? We are here for you. You will learn about breathing, your core muscles, and how to use and strengthen them, proper alignment and simple, yet safe and effective exercises that will be the foundation of your Pilates practice for years to come.
Your session may include exercises on a mat or a piece of Pilates equipment called the Reformer. You might feel some muscle soreness after your first session or you might not, but don’t worry. Pilates is still working its magic even if you aren’t sore. Some people notice they feel taller. This is due to the strengthening, alignment, and flexibility exercises at the core of Pilates.
